こんにちは、サンパウロ在住10年目に突入するのに、未だカタコトのブラジルちえみです。
ブラジルって、何語を話すの？
ブラジル語？
友達にも、こう聞かれることが良くあります。
正直言うと、私も旦那さんと出会うまでブラジルには全く興味がなく、何語をしゃべるのか知りませんでした。。。
そこで今回は、ブラジルの公用語と英語表記のスペル、ブラジルで英語は通じるのか？をご紹介します！

ブラジルの公用語は何語？
ブラジルの公用語は「ポルトガル語」です。
日本人でポルトガル語を習っている人は、まだまだ少ないのではないでしょうか？
よっぽどブラジルが好きな人か、ブラジル人の友達がいるかでないと、なかなか難しいと思います。
というのも・・・
ポルトガル語を勉強しようとしても、辞書や参考書が英語やスペイン語に比べると圧倒的に少ないです。
日系ブラジル人以外の日本人で、ポルトガル語を話す人って、どうやって勉強しているのか知りたいよ！！

ブラジルの英語表記のスペルは「ＢＲＡＺＩＬ」なのか「ＢＲＡＳＩＬ」なのか？

ブラジルのスペルは「Brazil」でも「Brasil」でも、どちらの綴りでもいいのかな？
「ｚ」なのか、「ｓ」なのか、どちらが正解なのでしょう？
正解はブラジルの英語表記は「ＢＲＡＺＩＬ」です。
Brazilと Brasilのスペルの違いとは？
ちなみに、ブラジルのポルトガル語表記が「ＢＲＡＳＩＬ」になります。
ワールドカップなどの世界大会では基本的に英語表記の「Brazil」と書かれていることが多く、日本人には「Brazil」の方がなじみがあると思います。
しかし、大会の公式ロゴマークなど、地元での表記を優先させるときはポルトガル語表記の「Brasil」と書かれます。
似ているだけに、間違っているみたいでややこしいよね。
ブラジルちえみ
ブラジルに住んでいるので「Brasil 」と書くのになれているのですが、たまに日本人向けに書くときには「Brasil」と書くと
「スペルが間違ってる！と思われてるんじゃ？」と考えることがあります。。。
日本人では、なかなか学ぶことが少ないポルトガル語。
ポルトガル語がしゃべれない状態で、旅行などで行く場合、ブラジルでは英語が通じるのでしょうか？
ブラジル人に英語は通じるのか？
答えは、「ノー」です。
ブラジル人は「英語」が話せません！
ブラジルで、英語は一般的に通じないと思っておいた方がいいでしょう。
都心の高級ホテル、観光地のなら若干、英語をしゃべるブラジル人もいますが、街ゆく、ほとんどのブラジル人、地方に行けばなおさら「英語」は話せません！
日本と同じく、ブラジルでも中学生（学校によっては小学生）では英語が必須科目になってきます。
が、しかし・・・
日本人が勉強していても、英語がしゃべれないのと同じです。
英語が好きで勉強しているとか、会社で使っているようなブラジル人でないと、英語ではまず通じません。
英語とポルトガル語の発音の違い
基本的には、同じアルファベットを使うのですが、発音が変わるものがあります。
「ｕ」の発音
たとえば、「u」は、日本語と同じ、そのまま「ウ」の発音です。
「sun」英語で太陽は、ポルトガル語読みすると「スン」になってしまいます。
「ｉ」の発音
例えば、｢i｣も、「アイ」ではなく、そのまま「イ」の発音になります。
「ｔｈ」の発音
例えば英語の「think」
考えるが「チンク」になってしまします。
英語を話せる方でも、どうしても発音がポルトガル語なまりになってしまいます。
これも日本人の発音がどうしてもカタカナに近くなってしまうのと一緒ですね。
ポルトガル語とスペイン語は似ているっていうけど。。。
ブラジルで、スペイン語は通じるのか？
スペイン語は、比較的ポルトガル語と似ているので、英語よりかは若干通じやすいように思います。
しかし、これも学校教育で「スペイン語」を選択したブラジル人でないとスラスラとは話せません。
あくまでも英語と比べれば、似ている単語が多いので「スペイン語の方が通じやすいかな？」という程度です。

基本はアルファベットで書かれているので、正しい発音かどうかは別として、文字は意外に簡単に読むことができると思いますよ。
